2023 NBSL MD7 Wrap: United shine in Kebbi derby as Nmanko Patigi push for first title

The final phase of the 2023 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) kicked off with Kebbi United, Nmanko Patigi and Kada Stars celebrating opening victories in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State capital on Friday.
The title-deciding phase launched with a local derby between the two Kebbi State teams – the leaders and third-placed sides providing an action-packed opener as Kebbi United secured a 7-6 win over 2021 champions, Kebbi BSC.
The second team from Kebbi State and debutants raced to a 3-2 lead after the first period thanks to Hassan Abdullahi’s hat-trick.
Kebbi United, put the game beyond reasonable doubt with a 7-2 lead after the second period to the surprise of Kebbi BSC fans.
Four goals in the third period weren’t enough as Kebbi United held on firmly to earn a 7-6 win.
The win ended Kebbi BSC’s six-match unbeaten run in the league this season and opened up the title challenge.
Earlier, Nmanko Patigi BSC closed the gap at the top of the table to a point after a 4-2 win over Kebbi United.
A brace from the league’s top goal scorer, Jamiu Kunle coupled with a goal each from Ogunlana Seun and Bashir Taiwo lifted the Kwara-based side to a win.
Hamza Abubakar and Abdulmajid Maji reduced the deficit for Kebbi United BSC.
In the late kick off encounter of the opening day, Kada BSC secured a 3-0 win over Smart City BSC.
Matchday eight will take place on Saturday, August 19, with Matchday nine ending the season on Sunday, August 20, as the team with the highest point will be crowned league champions.
