2024 Olympic Qualifiers: Cameroon beat Uganda to rekindle African rivalry with Nigeria

Nigeria and Cameroon will rekindle their rivalry in African women’s football as both sides will trade tackles in the third round of the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers next February.
The Indomitable Lionesses had to come from two goals down in the first leg of the second-round clash to seal a 3-2 win on aggregate after extra time in the return leg at the Unification Stadium, Douala.
After missing a penalty in the first leg, Ajara Nchout Njoya opened the scoring for Cameroon in the 31st minute with a volley inside the box.
In the 48th minute, Monique Ngock doubled the as she headed in a free kick to the delight of the home fans.
With the game approaching the lottery of penalties, Fellone Meffometou scored the winner for Cameroon in the 115th minute to seal a 3-2 win on aggregate.
Nigeria and Cameroon will meet in the third round of the qualifiers in a two-legged encounter. The doubleheader marks a repeat of the Morocco 2022 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarter-final in Rabat.
Rasheedat Ajibade scored the winner for the Super Falcons the last time out which qualified the nine-time African champions for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
