Ghana FA reappoints Otto Addo as Black Stars head coach ahead of Nigeria friendly

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the appointment of former Black Stars captain, Otto Addo, as the new Head Coach of the senior men’s national team.

This decision comes ahead of an upcoming friendly match against Nigeria.

In a statement released on Friday, signed by GFA President Kurt Okraku, the association expressed confidence in Addo’s abilities and vision for the team.

Okraku emphasized that Addo emerged as the top candidate during the interview process, impressing the selection committee with his strategic approach and commitment to the team’s success.

“Otto was exceptional in the interview process and was rated highly by the search committee,” stated President Okraku.

“There were some brilliant individuals among the coaches who applied for the job, but the committee unanimously agreed that Otto Addo possesses the qualities needed to lead the Black Stars.”

Addo, a former midfielder for Borussia Dortmund, previously served as caretaker manager for the Black Stars, guiding them to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar by defeating Nigeria’s Super Eagles. He now returns to the helm of the team with a renewed focus on achieving success on the international stage.

The 48-year-old coach faces the challenge of rejuvenating a team that faced disappointment at the recent African Cup of Nations (AFCON), failing to advance past the group stage.

However, Addo’s track record and strategic approach offer hope for a resurgence in the team’s performance.

Addo’s first test in his second tenure will be against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in an international friendly scheduled to take place in Marrakech, Morocco later this month.

The match presents an opportunity for Addo to assess his squad and set the tone for his tenure as head coach of the Black Stars.
