Kenneth Omeruo blames ill-luck for Mali loss

By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigeria defender, Kenneth Omeruo has expressed disappointment for their 2-0 loss against Mali on Tuesday night at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.
The win marked Mali’s first win over the Super Eagles in nearly 50 years, not thanks to error from Chidozie Awaziem and Jamilu Collins.
Omeruo, who captained the Eagles against Mali, acknowledged the missed opportunities that cost them the game.
He emphasized that while the result was disappointing, the team gave their best effort on the field, highlighting the positive aspects of the team’s performance and the fighting spirit displayed by the players.
“Overall, I think we played a good game,” Omeruo told NFF TV.
“I think we played a better second half, it wasn’t a bad game, we just didn’t take our chances and they scored two goals.
“I think it was a good outing for us, fantastic spirit. The players that were here gave their best. We just couldn’t score in the game.
“June is only a few weeks away. We are focused on the matches against South Africa and Benin Republic,
“Many players in the group have not played at the World Cup before, and they see this as the big opportunity to be there. We cannot afford to let ourselves and the nation down.”
The defeat marks a setback for the Super Eagles, who were hoping to build on their previous victory over Ghana. However, it also serves as a learning opportunity as they prepare for future matches, including crucial World Cup qualifiers on the horizon.
