President Federation Cup: Rafiu Oseni hails Sunshine Queens after Honey Badgers win

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Sunshine Queens Head Coach, Rafiu Oseni, has commended his players for their impressive performance, noting their coordination and discipline during and after their 2-0 win over Honey Badgers in the Round of 16 of the 2024 President Federation Cup in Aba.

Oseni emphasized his focus on taking each game as it comes, attributing their victory at the Enyimba International Stadium to hard work.

“We took our time to work on the inadequacies we discovered in our first match, and thank God our efforts were not in vain,” Oseni told journalists after the match.

He recounted the importance of continuous self-assessment and improvement in all areas to progress further in the competition.

“For us to progress in the competition, we have to assess ourselves in every department and work on the areas where we are not performing well so that we can be stronger,” he stated.

In an entertaining encounter, Bolaji Olamide put Sunshine Queens ahead in the 17th minute from a cross by Shola Oduwale. Aluba Ogba sealed the victory for the 2015 Women Federation Cup winners in the 62nd minute with a long-range strike.

After their relegation from the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership at the end of the season, the Akure-based side is now focusing on the President Federation Cup before attempting a return to the top tier of the women’s football league from the Championship.

The team will face Delta Queens in the quarter-finals.
