“One season wonder” — Mr. Jollof blasts Victor Osimhen over Finidi George’s outburst

By Monsurah Olatunji

Social media influencer Freedom Atsepoyi, popularly known as Mr. Jollof, has publicly criticized Victor Osimhen following the forward’s controversial outburst directed at former Ajax and Super Eagles star Finidi George.

The drama unfolded after Osimhen’s social media tirade against Finidi caught significant attention within Nigerian football circles.

In response, Mr. Jollof took to his own social media platforms to advise the Chelsea-linked star to apologize to the ex-Super Eagles coach, deeming Osimhen’s behavior disrespectful.

However, this advice did not sit well with Osimhen, who subsequently blocked Mr. Jollof on Instagram.

This action prompted the comedian, believed to be 35 years old, to release a viral video berating the 25-year-old Napoli forward, referring to him as a “one-season wonder” and stressing the age difference between them.

“One-season wonder player Victor Osimhen blocked me on Instagram. I don’t support people who act crazy! Well, I don’t need him to go anywhere in life,” Mr. Jollof captioned.

He further elaborated on his stance, expressing disappointment in Osimhen’s reaction: “If you didn’t like the way I corrected you, you could have said, ‘Ah Jollof, the way you reason this matter is not the way it should be reasoned, here’s what happened.’

“But the way you addressed the coach was wrong. I would still advise you the same way. But you didn’t want to hear my advice. You just believe that since you’ve had one good season, you’re a king.”

Emphasizing their age difference, Mr. Jollof continued, “I am 12 years older than you. Do you think blocking me affects me? Have I benefited anything from you? I have never asked you for anything, nor do I need anything from you.”

He concluded by referencing other football stars, including the most-decorated Nigerian player, Mikel Obi, to highlight his point: “When I promoted you during the Nations Cup, where you scored just one goal as an African footballer, you were valued at £130 million.

“Since the day you disrespected Finidi, your value as a footballer has more than halved. I can correct anyone, even Messi. The most-decorated Nigerian player Mikel Obi, I corrected him, and he didn’t block me.”

Mr. Jollof’s public reprimand underscores the ongoing tension and differing opinions within the Nigerian football community regarding respect and conduct, especially involving high-profile players like Victor Osimhen.
