Nigeria international Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has disclosed that former Manchester City star Yaya Toure has been his role model and a source of inspiration throughout his career.
The energetic midfielder, who recently joined Lazio on a season-long loan from Hatayspor, expressed his admiration for Toure, citing their similar style of play as a key reason for looking up to the Ivorian legend.
Dele-Bashiru is eager to tackle the challenges of the Italian league and believes his style can thrive in Serie A.
“My idol has always been Yaya Toure. I consider myself a box-to-box midfielder. I like to run and shoot,” Dele-Bashiru said during his press unveiling.
“This is why I have always been inspired by Yaya Toure; I try to replicate his way of being on the pitch. I hope that my characteristics can marry with Serie A.
“League One was very physical, with a lot of aerial challenges. But I think that in Italy, with the intensity and tactics that distinguish every match, I can grow further. I can’t wait to get started.”
Dele-Bashiru began his career at Manchester City but struggled to secure a permanent spot in the first team.
He moved to Sheffield Wednesday, where he gained significant playing time and prominence before his successful stint in Turkey with Hatayspor.
Now, he looks forward to making a substantial impact in Serie A with Lazio.
