Nigeria international goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie delivered an inspiring speech after being crowned the best goalkeeper in African women’s football for the second consecutive year at the 2024 CAF Awards Gala, held on Monday night in Morocco.
The Paris FC shot-stopper triumphed over strong contenders, including Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi and South Africa’s Andile Dlamini, to claim the prestigious honor.
The 24-year-old was a key figure in Nigeria’s successful campaign during the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers. She also played a pivotal role in Paris FC’s historic run in the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL), where her incredible penalty shootout performances earned worldwide recognition.
Additionally, Nnadozie contributed to her club’s third-place finish in the French League and represented Nigeria at the Paris Olympic Games.
In her acceptance speech, Nnadozie expressed her gratitude to CAF for its dedication to developing women’s football across the continent, while proudly celebrating her back-to-back achievement.
“Last year I was here, and I am here again today,” she said. “I am grateful to God. I want to say a big thank you to the CAF President and the Nigerian Football President for the work done for women’s football.
“Also, thank you to my club, Paris FC, who has invested a lot in me, to my coaches, and teammates who all made this happen. Of course, to my family and friends who have supported me from day one.”
