AbdulRaheem’s strike sends Kwara United into President Federation Cup Round of 16

By Dayo Awoniyi

Kwara United secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Gombe United at the Lafia Township Stadium in Nasarawa, advancing to the Round of 16 in the President Federation Cup.

The decisive moment came in the 54th minute when Shola AbdulRaheem expertly converted a cross from Yahaya Ibrahim to give the Harmony Boys the lead and ultimately seal the win.

Despite dominating possession in the first half, Kwara United squandered several clear-cut chances. Lewis Dandong, Junior Aimufua, and Wasiu Alalade all missed opportunities to break the deadlock.

Gombe United attempted a second-half comeback, but a solid defensive performance led by Jimoh Gbadamosi thwarted their efforts, ensuring a clean sheet for Kwara United.

Coach Tunde Sanni expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, saying, “Our focus now shifts to our NPFL Matchday 33 clash against Plateau United in Jos on Sunday.”

Kwara United will now face the winner of the match between Lobi Stars and Solution FC in the Round of 16.
