CAFCC: Asante Kotoko must be ready for Kwara United – Assistant Coach Prince Owusu

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Asante Kotoko assistant coach Prince Owusu has called for total focus and preparation as the Porcupine Warriors gear up for their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round clash against Nigeria’s Kwara United.

Kotoko endured a disappointing campaign at the recently concluded GHALCA Top 4 competition, where they lost all three matches against Gold Stars, Heart of Lions, and archrivals Hearts of Oak at the Legon Sports Stadium.

The poor run was a far cry from their success last season, when the club clinched the FA Cup, the President’s Cup, and the Toyota Cup.

Reflecting on the Top 4 setback, Owusu admitted the team fell short but believes it serves as a timely reminder ahead of continental duty.

“It’s rather unfortunate; we came here to win but this is how it ended. The boys did what they could, but we need to do more to get them back on track,” Owusu said.

“We lost all three games, and we know Kotoko fans will not take that lightly. We have to work harder to correct our mistakes. It’s not just about this tournament but about getting the boys ready for the Confederation Cup and the league. This is a wake-up call for us.”

Kotoko, record holders of the Ghana Premier League, will fly the country’s flag in the CAF Confederation Cup, beginning with a first-round battle against Kwara United.
