Folsa Academy set to defend title as 2022 Principals Cup kicks off in Lagos

Fosla Academy will be eager to defend their title they won in 2021 when the 2022 Principals Cup kick off on Saturday 5th November, 2022 in Lagos featuring six different sports, including football for the first time.

Besides football, the other included sports are basketball, table tennis, handball, Volleyball and athletics.

The tournament will be played on state, zonal and national levels before overall champions would be determined in each sports at the finals in Abuja. The state finals will commence from 7th to 12th November, 2022.

In an exclusive interview with Kola Daniel, the Media Assistance to Sports Minister, he said: “the rebirth of Principals Cup is brainchild of Hon. Minister, Sunday Dare. It is a tournament that had in the ‘1980s produced many players for the national teams.”

On the roadmap to the finals of the 2022 edition, he continued: “The first edition took place two years ago and the second edition will come up in November. This edition will feature six sports like, Football, Handball, Volleyball, Basketball, Table tennis and athletics. This is to expand the discovery of talents beyond Football.

“The second edition will take off from State level to zonal while the National finals take place in Abuja. The flag off of the National Principals Cup will take place on Lagos next week on 5th November, 2022.

“The date for the commencement of the second edition is made known by the Committee in charge of the tournament. This time, only secondary school students will participate.

“The Ministry has set up modalities to check participants and those that are not students would be disqualified.”
