NWFL: Rivers Angels’ Kenneth and Okwuchukwu set sights on victory at Royal Queens

Former champions Rivers Angels FC are bidding to finish the first stanza of this season’s Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season with victory when they visit Royal Queens on Wednesday.

The Jewel of Rivers are without a win in their last two matches but are determined for a win at Sapele Township stadium and team’s captain Catherine Kenneth feels a win in Sapele would boost the confidence of his teammates.

 “This is probably one of our worst first round performance in a long time because we have this record of picking all points both home and away but this hasn’t been the case for us this time around,” Kenneth told the clube media.

“I think the new set of players we have are still trying to blend into our style of play, so it’s just time that we need.

“However, a win here on Wednesday will surely be a good one for the team following the results from our last two games. It is the last one in this round so we really need this win.

“Royal Queens can be a difficult test but we’ll do our best in ensuring we edge them at the end of the game. A draw here is not even an option for us right now, all we want is to get the maximum point.”

Both sides met twice last season as the Jewel Of Rivers won 0-4 before Royal Queens came to Port Harcourt and went back with a 1-3 win over the former champions.

Meanwhile, former Royal Queens forward, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu is confident of a win over her former side.

“I am convinced we will win in tomorrow’s game, not because we are playing a bad side or anything because Royal Queens are a decent team but because we are like wounded lions at the moment.

“We dropped points in our last game which was at home and need to make up for it by picking the three points at stake tomorrow. A win here will restore our confidence,” she said.
