By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Confluence Queens secured a historic fourth consecutive win of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership with a 2-0 win over Ibom Angels in Lokoja on Friday.
The Kogi ladies went into the mid-season break on a high, having won three consecutive matches and they sought to continue from where they left in the second stanza at their home against Ibom Angels, which they achieved.
Coach Whyte Ogbonda of Confluence Queens started the match with Linda Jiwaku in goal alongside Mary Opara, Hauwa Abdullahi, Peter Martha, Isigwe Chukwuamaka, Adebiyi Saidat, Offor Merit, Nnandi Oluchi, Amarachi Okoronkwo, Okoyo Rejoice, and Oliver Jennifer.
For Ibom Angels coach, Usen Ebuk, Fubiana Briggs, Idara Peter, Ijeoma Onweagba, Abigail Ime, Esther Friday, Sarah Joseph, Udeme Uko, Charity Isaiah, Adekemi Akintan, Imo Jones, and Goodess Usen.
Isigwe Chukwuamaka scored the first goal of the game in the first half for the host with a superb strike to the end of the first half and she also had the chance to double her side’s lead before the break but missed a glorious career.
With knocking to add another guarantee their home win, Chukwuamaka once again converted her second goal of the game in the last ten minutes to end the contest for the Lokoja-based side.
The win means Confluence Queens have recorded a fourth consecutive win this season after earlier triumphs over Nasarawa Amazons (3-2), FC Robo Queens (2-1), and Ibom Angels (1-0).
And the result powers Confluence Queens to second, tied on 13 points at the top of Group B alongside Nasarawa Amazons, a point ahead of third-placed Edo Queens, who got a game in hand.
