Serie A: Victor Osimhen instrumental in Napoli return to winning ways

Nigeria star Victor Osimhen was unable to increase his Serie A goal tally on Saturday but he was instrumental for Napoli as they returned to winning ways following a hardfought 2-0 win over Atalanta.

The Super Eagles striker is leading the scorers chart with 19 goals but he saw his three open chances denied by Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso.

Napoli went into the match on the back of their second league defeat against Lazio last Sunday and the hosts looked determined to get back to winning ways with plenty of early attacking intent on display but met a solid Atalanta defense and near perfect goalkeeping from Musso.

Osimhen who looked to have been shut out from finding back of the net played a huge role on the hour mark by finding Kvaratskhelia in a vantage position to shoot Napoli in front that sent a wild jubilation inside Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

As Atalanta were trying to regroup for a late comeback, Amir Rrahmani doubled the lead for the hosts with a perfect header that beat the stretching arms of Musso.

The win saw the Azzuris registering their ninth win of their last 10 Serie A matches and move them closer to lifting the Scudetto after almost three decades.

Atalanta, however played three consecutive league games without scoring for the first time since October 2018, something to worry Gasperini whose side looked to be going through a blip of form.
