Nigeria to know Paris 2024 Women’s Olympic qualifiers foes on May 30
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria’s women’s national team will attempt a return to the Olympics when its opponents for the Paris 2024 Women’s African qualifiers will be confirmed on May 30.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced that the draw for the qualifiers of the Women’s Olympic Football tournament will take place on Tuesday 30 May 2023 in Cairo, Egypt.
The African qualifiers for Paris 2024 will kick off in July 2023 and will be concluded in April 2024.  This will be spread over four rounds: home and away.
Two teams will qualify for the Olympics from Africa, a change from the last edition where Zambia picked Africa’s sole ticket.
Nigeria has not qualified for the past three Olympics in the United Kingdom (2012), Brazil (2016), and Japan (2020).
The most successful team in Africa has played at three Olympics in 2000 (Australia), 2004 (Greece), and 2008 (China).
Out of its nine games at the Olympics, the team has won a game and lost the remaining eight games, with their best performance being a quarter-final finish at Athens 2004 Olympics.
Below is the full schedule of the 2024 Olympics qualifiers and final tournament:
First Round: 10-18 July 2023
Second Round: 23-31 October 2023
Third Round: 19-28 February 2024
Fourth Round: 1-9 April 2024
Women’s Olympic Final Tournament: 25 July – 10 August 2023
