Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi: Former Nigeria U20 star joins Victor Osimhen in Serie A

Italian top club, Salernitana have secured the signing of promising Nigerian striker, Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi from Slovenian club Celje.

Reports from Italy revealed that Salernitana have won the race to sign the young striker who has also been on the radar of other top clubs including AC Milan, Cagliari and Genoa.

Ikwuemesi who is valued at £500,000 became the toast of the biggest clubs in Europe after an impressive year in Slovenia last season where he scored nine goals with five assists. He also used his dribbling skills and hold on play to turn heads in the league which drew much admirations from many.

Short on attacking options ahead of the start of the Serie A, Salernitana are racing against time to have the deal for Ikwuemesi tied up.

Salernitana coach, Paulo Sousa has seen Ikwuemesi as ideal strike partner with his only available center forward, Boulaye Dia as the is preparing to start new Serie A season at AS Roma.

Salernitana struggled in Serie A last term, but the Garnets finished strongly to sit in the 15th position in the final standings.

Ikwuemesi has previously played for Austria’s SK Vorwärts Steyr and Slovenia’s lower league side NK Krško.
