Deborah Abiodun shines in winning Pittsburgh University debut against Drexel

Nigeria midfielder, Deborah Abiodun made an impactful apearance on her debut for University of Pittsburgh women’s team as the team earned a 4-1 victory over Drexel on Sunday.
The 2023 Women’s World Cup star finally made her maiden appearance for the American outfit following her switch from Nigeria Women’s Football League side, Rivers Angels in April 2023.
Abiodun played a crucial role in the game after coming off the bench. As early as the eighth minute of play, the Panthers opened the scoring thanks to Schupansky at the Ambrose Urbanic Field.
The goal propelled the host to score more goals as Samiah Phiri doubled the lead for the hosts with a powerful strike four minutes later.
Pitt continued to search for more goals as Schupansky scored her second goal of the game to make it 3-0 in the 13th minute. Three minutes into the second half, Abiodun played a pivotal role in the fourth goal of Randy Waldrum’s team as she set up Amanda West to increase her side’s lead to four.
Despite Drexel reduced the deficit from Delaney Lappin in the 55th minute, the Nigerian made a winning debut for her American University side.
Abiodun who played her first game for the team saw 39 minutes after coming off the bench to deliver her first assist for the club. Pittsburgh will next face Kent State on Thursday.
