Bendel Insurance force Doma United to draw in NPFL reschedule clash
By Wale Mustapha
Bendel Insurance FC put a clog in Doma United’s impressive spell in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL as they held the Savannah Tigers to goaless draw in a rescheduled Matchday Six decided in Gombe on Wednesday.
Doma were still basking the euphoria of their first ever Gombe derby victory over their city rivals Gombe United and were expected to consolidate on it with a win against the Benin Arsenals.
It didn’t go as planned for Akinade Onigbinde’s side as they were left frustrated with a defensive masterclass of Insurance.
It was a match that produced few talking moments but could still a goal recorded had it not be for great goalkeeping and brilliant defending.
Doma would have taken an early lead inside 15th minute but Andrew Majalisa guide his left footed attempt wide.
Insurance could have also take a first half lead when Chisom Okereke combined with Ismael Sarki but Doma United’ defense were at alert to thwart their final effort.
Insurance goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie was called to action with a smart save to party wide a curling effort from Emmanuel Jesam.
Insurance initiated a quick attack soon after at the other end as Sarki’s long range effort forced Kingdom Osayi to a beautiful save.
With less than 10 minutes to full time, Hillary could have given Doma a late goal when he combined well with Bidemi but his shot went wide.
The visitors formed a strong shield to ward off subsequent late surge from Doma as both teams eventually settled for a share of the spoils.
The valuable point on the road has seen Insurance garnered 11 points from seven games while Doma have eight from six with a game at hand.
Up next for Doma is another home duel against struggling Akwa United while Insurance will be guest to Niger Tornadoes in Kaduna at the weekend.
