Kelechi Nwakali Secures Loan Return to MVV Maastricht from Arsenal

In a strategic move to rejuvenate his playing career, Nigerian midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has sealed a return to MVV Maastricht on loan from Arsenal, following a challenging stint with top-flight side VVV Venlo. The official confirmation of Nwakali’s loan arrangement was announced by MVV Maastricht on Wednesday.
Nwakali’s journey, marked by loan spells, first led him to Maastricht during the 2016/2017 season. Subsequently, Arsenal orchestrated another loan move for the talented midfielder, this time to the newly promoted Dutch first-division outfit, VVV Venlo, for the 2017/2018 campaign.
However, Nwakali faced a formidable challenge securing playing time at VVV Venlo, making appearances in only nine of the team’s 19 league games and scoring a lone goal.
A statement released on Maastricht’s official website articulated the homecoming of the 19-year-old talent: “Attacking midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has returned to the Geusselt Stadium. As in the 2016-2017 season, Nwakali was loaned from Arsenal until the end of the current season.”
Maastricht Coach Ron Elsen expressed optimism about Nwakali’s contribution, stating, “Last season, we have already seen that Kelechi is a multifunctional attacking midfielder who has a nose for the ‘final pass.’ He plays in an attacking and dominant style of play. At MVV Maastricht, however, he can even gain more playing time. We know what we can and should expect from him. This has definitely factored into our decision to bring him back to Maastricht.”
Nwakali is poised to grace the pitch for MVV Maastricht once the club finalizes the necessary paperwork securing his work permit.
