AFCON 2023: “Cameroon is not afraid of Victor Osimhen” – Rigobert Song

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Head coach of Cameroon’s senior men’s national team, Rigobert Song insists his team is not afraid of Nigeria forward, Victor Osimhen.

The 2023 Africa Player of the Year winner has only scored a goal so far at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) during a 1-1 draw with Equatorial Guinea in the first match of the team.

The Napoli has had chances to increase his goal tally at the tournament but the 2022/2023 Italian Serie A top goal scorer’s deadly and killer instinct upfront is of great threat to any team.

With a clash with the Indomitable Lions in the Round of 16 of AFCON 2023, Song reiterated that his players don’t fear Osimhen’s threats.

“I remain focused with much respect knowing what is at stake,” Song told the media.

“He [Osimhen] is the best player in Africa. He plays in the same club as one of our players [Zambo Anguissa] who knows him well.

“We respect him but respecting him doesn’t mean we fear him. We will face the game with utmost target of winning.”

The winner of the Round of 16 clash between Nigeria and Cameroon will face either Angola or Namibia in the quarter-final.

With three goals after three games and conceding one, the Super Eagles boast of being one of the best defensive sides in the competition.

The Indomitable Lions on the other hand have scored five goals and conceded six after three group games.
