AFCON 2023: Francis Uzoho responds to social media backlash over performance

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho has reacted to social media comments about his performance for the senior men’s national team.

The Omonia FC save hands have been under severe criticism in recent times for conceding in games.

In his place, Chippa United goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali debuted for him during the Super Eagles opening Group A match at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

On Sunday, the game ended in a 1-1 draw ensuring that the team continued to struggle for clean sheets.

“I don’t know what to say I just try my best to make sure it [social media comments] doesn’t have any effect on me,” Uzoho told journalists during the team media day on Tuesday.

“That’s all I have to do. All I can do is to control the things happening to me but I can not control if they happen or not.”

It is left to be seen if Uzoho will get back his starting shirt behind the sticks or if Nwabali continue to get on the line-up.

Thursday’s game will take place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan.

The three-time African champions hope to get their first win of the tournament against the host, Cote D’Ivoire.
