Nigeria assistant captain, William Troost-Ekong has expressed his admiration for Victor Osimhen, acknowledging his skill and influence within the team.
In a show of team solidarity and spirit, Ekong continues to be vocal in assuring Nigerians of the team’s potential and determination to excel in the tournament.
The Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by Equatorial Guinea in their Africa Cup of Nations Group A opening encounter in Abidjan.
Despite missing winning chances in the opening match, Ekong’s confidence in his teammates, particularly in Osimhen’s abilities, reflects a positive outlook for the team’s future performances.
“I’m lucky to play in Nigeria with the best player in Africa [Osimhen],” he told The Athletic.
“I’ve played in other teams with fantastic players and players that have the world at their feet so if we can get players like that on board there will be a message that can spread very quickly. Perhaps then it will be taken seriously.”
The three-time will battle the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire at the Alssanne Quattara Stadium Ebimpe, Abidjan, on Thursday, and Osimhen is anticipated to lead the Super Eagles in their quest for glory.
