Afcon 2023: ‘Talk is cheap’ – Asisat Oshoala shushes Yaha Toure on Nigeria chances

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria superstar Asisat Oshoala has defended Super Eagles, following comments made by ex-Barcelona star Yaya Toure ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Nigeria will compete in Group A at the 2023 AFCON in January alongside host nation, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.
The Elephants and the Super Eagles are favorites to safely navigate the group, but Toure had backed his country Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau to make it past the group stage and reach the knockout stage of the competition.
The former Manchester City star went on to pick his top four favorites to win the prestigious title; Senegal, Morocco, Guinea-Bissau, and South Africa.
However, Barcelona star, who had won more African Player of the Year awards (six) than Toure (four), insisted that Nigeria have the best set of players that can lead the team to glory at the tournament.
“Talk is cheap. When we get to the tournament, we will separate the boys from the men,” Oshoala told Brilla FM.
“Why not? We have the almighty Osimhen, the best player in Africa; we have Boniface doing well at club level. I feel like we have a good team; it’s not about individual talent.
“I feel like we have a good team, and we have enough time to build up towards the tournament.”
