AFCON 2023: Victor Osimhen claims Man-of-the-Match prize after inspiring Nigeria win

Reigning African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen has been rewarded with best player of the match in Nigeria’s 1-0 important win over Ivory Coast in their African Cup of Nations, AFCON clash on Thursday.

The Super Eagles proved doubters wrong with humbling of the tournament’s host thanks to as second half penalty converted by William Troost-Ekong.

The Napoli’s striker was instrumental to the victory as he was upended in the box leading to the spot kick.

He was also a menace to the Ivory Coast defense who were under intense pressure through the match.

The vital win has however earned Nigeria four points from two games, same as group leaders, Equatorial Guinea who had earlier defeated Guinea-Bissau 4-2 and stay top on goal difference.

Nigeria will then be taking on already eliminated Djurtus in the final match of the group stage next Monday.
