AFCON 2025: Francis Uzoho Hails Healthy Goalkeeping Competition in Super Eagles

Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has described the level of competition in Nigeria’s senior men’s national team as healthy, particularly in the goalkeeping department.

The experienced shot-stopper said his personal focus is not on claiming the number-one jersey but on delivering his best performance whenever he is called upon to represent the team.

According to Uzoho, competition within the squad is positive and helps raise standards rather than create division.

“There is competition in the team, but for me it is not about being the number one,” Uzoho said.

“I always try to be at my best whenever I am called upon. It’s not a competition of who is number one or not.”

Uzoho’s comments reflect the unity within the Super Eagles camp as Nigeria continue their campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with players focused on collective success rather than individual status.

The goalkeeper added that mutual respect among the goalkeepers has contributed to a strong and supportive atmosphere within the squad, helping the team stay competitive as the tournament progresses.
