AFCON 2025: Super Eagles to start their campaign against Tanzania

Nigeria’s senior men’s national team will kick off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign when they face Tanzania.
The Group C opener is billed for December 23 at the Complex Sportif de Fez.
Four days later, the Super Eagles will meet Tunisia at the same stadium.
The match is a repeat of the 2004 semi-finals, which the Carthage Eagles won on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
In 2006, Nigeria avenged the loss on penalties with former goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama the hero.
The last meeting between both sides was at the 2021 AFCON Round of 16 where the North Africans edged out Nigeria 1-0 in Cameroon.
The three-time African champions will wrap up their group campaign against Uganda on December 30.
It is 12 years since the Super Eagles last won the AFCON.
Late Stephen Keshi led the team to the title in 2013 when South Africa hosted the tournament.
