AFCON 2025: “We are ready” – Tanzania coach confident ahead of Nigeria battle

By Wale Mustapha

Tanzania’s national men’s football team head coach, Hemed Suleiman Ali, has confidently stated that his side will be fully prepared for their upcoming clash with the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Taifa Stars have been drawn into a challenging Group C, alongside Nigeria, Tunisia, and Uganda, for the tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco later this year.

Despite being the lowest-ranked team in the group, Ali remains optimistic, believing his side will put up a strong fight and strive for qualification to the next stage.

“We are ready. We saw who we were going to play with. I think it’s a tough group, but it’s tough for all of them. There is no easy group,” Ali said in an interview with Cafonline.com.

“If you have qualified for this stage of the competition, you have to prepare. We know who we are facing, and we know how we will prepare for them. There is no other way, we have to prepare well and represent our people well at this tournament.”

Tanzania will face Nigeria in their opening match at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Tuesday, December 23. With Ali’s determination, the Taifa Stars will look to make a strong statement in their AFCON campaign.
