Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC), Sabina Chikere has assured relevant stakeholders that the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium is in its best shape to host any international tournament.
The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) had sent its representatives to inspect the ancient Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium ahead of the 2027 AFCON and they were led through the inspection of the facility by Mrs Chikere.
While boasting that the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium is one of the best state of the art facilities, Mrs Chikere lauded the CAF inspection team for their good remarks, describing the state as the destination of sports in Nigeria.
“As we all know, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium is one of the best stadium in Nigeria and we are working towards having the best in Africa,” the sports ministry boss told media.
“We always feel fulfilled and proud by the remarks and commendations made by our visitors and inspection teams each time they come here. This is the second or third time they (CAF team) are visiting Edo State.
“Like we all know, Edo is the destination for sports in Nigeria. Nigeria is bidding to co-host the 36th CAF Nation’s CUP competition in 2027 and Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium is chosen as one of the designated venues for the competitions.”
The Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium will be the host of the Wafu B Women’s Champions League coming up on 18 August to third of September 2023.
