Nigeria forward Akor Adams scored two goals as Montpellier climbed into the top half of French Ligue 1 by virtue of a much-needed 3-0 victory over local rivals Toulouse at the Stade de la Mosson on Sunday.

The win ensured the host gained bragging rights after the Violets won both Head-to-Head meetings last term.

Adams opened the scoring with a moment of magic.

Only the Nigerian will know if his first touch was intentional, but it completely fooled the away team’s defence and allowed him to pick his spot to place his volley beyond Guillaume Restes.

Montpellier would carry the lead through to halftime.

Toulouse were struggling to present any kind of attacking threat, and it looked like the game was beyond the just after the hour mark as La Paillade struck again.

A simple corner to the near post was flicked on by Boubakar Kouyate finding Khalil Fayad all alone to gleefully slide the ball into the net and double his side’s advance.

The points would be completely secured nine minutes later as Adams flashed his pace again to get in behind, and he was calmness personified as he drilled his effort through Restes to make it 3-0.

The brace increased Adams’ goal tally to seven after ten league games as he played the duration of the game.

Montpellier occupy the 11th position on the table with 11 points after nine games and also had an outstanding match.
