Ifeoma Onumonu scores in fifth consecutive game for Montpellier in loss to Dijon

Nigeria forward Ifeoma Onumonu scored in their fifth consecutive match for French women’s top-flight side, Montpellier, but it wasn’t enough to prevent her team from a 4-2 loss at Dijon on Saturday.

The visitors went ahead in the fifth minute through Marie Levasseur at the Stade Gaston Gerard, Dijon.

The host equalized in the 29th minute, thanks to Viktoria Pinther.

Two minutes later, they went ahead for the first time in the match through Malgorzata Grec.

Klaudia Jeslinska extended the lead to 3-1 nine minutes into the second half.

Onumonu made it 3-2 in the 75th minute of play as she scored her fifth consecutive goal for the club and in six straight games, including for Nigeria’s senior women’s national team during a 2-1 loss to France.

Meriame Terchoun sealed the win for Dijon in the 81st minute.

Onumonu played the duration of the game as she increased her goal to six after nine league games.

The former Gotham FC player has also provided an assist for her team.

Montpellier seats in the fifth position on the log with 16 points after 10 games.

They will face Fleury 91 in their next league encounter on December 14, 2024.
