Nigeria international Alex Iwobi was on target, but it wasn’t enough as Fulham were thrashed 4-1 by Wolverhampton Wanderers at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
Fulham took an early lead after a series of defensive errors by Wolves. Rayan Ait-Nouri’s poor giveaway in his own half was capitalized on when Jimenez missed a cross, and João Gomes’ subsequent error handed the ball to Iwobi.
The Nigerian midfielder made no mistake, curling a brilliant left-footed shot from the edge of the box into the top corner, giving Fulham a 1-0 advantage in the 22nd minute.
However, Wolves responded with an impressive comeback, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice, and João Gomes and Gonçalo Guedes adding further goals to secure their second win of the season.
Despite the heavy defeat, Iwobi reached a personal milestone, scoring his 25th Premier League goal across his spells at Arsenal, Everton, and Fulham.
With 265 league appearances and 32 assists, the 28-year-old now ranks eighth among Nigerian goal scorers in Premier League history, behind Victor Anichebe (27), and well behind the all-time top scorers, including Yakubu Aiyegbeni (95), Nwankwo Kanu (54), and Efan Ekoku (53).
