Alex Iwobi Vows to Persuade Tammy Abraham for Nigeria Switch

In a compelling revelation, Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has expressed his keenness to convince Swansea City striker Tammy Abraham to embrace a national allegiance to Nigeria, according to reports from Completesportsnigeria.com.

Despite fervent solicitations from the Nigerian Football Federation, 19-year-old Tammy Abraham, who continues to represent England at the U-21 level, remains hesitant about making the switch. In a public rebuttal, he has distanced himself from the overtures of his parents’ country of birth.

Acknowledging the challenges of such a decision, Iwobi, who himself underwent an international switch from England in 2015, conveyed his understanding in an exclusive interview with Completesportsnigeria.com. “Obviously, it’s going to be difficult when you’re playing in your comfort zone, representing England,” remarked Iwobi.

He continued, emphasizing the dilemma faced by players raised in England, stating, “Some of these players have been raised up in England and they play for England. So that’s all they know. If I get through to him, I could talk to him, but at the end of the day, it’s not my decision; it’s for him to decide.”

Sharing his personal experience, Iwobi extolled the warmth and hospitality of Nigerians, urging Abraham and others to consider the switch. “Nigerians are very welcoming, and you will enjoy your time,” he stated. “Personally, I’d advise Abraham and others to switch because they will enjoy their time playing for Nigeria.”

Iwobi, who recently scored the decisive goal against Zambia, securing Nigeria’s spot in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia, appears determined to extend his influence beyond the pitch, potentially shaping the international football landscape.
