Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi found the net for his fifth English Premier League (EPL) goal of the season, but it wasn’t enough to salvage Fulham from a 2-1 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Fulham entered the match with aspirations of securing a victory that would propel them closer to a European football position, displaying a promising start to the game.

However, missed opportunities in the first half resulted in both teams heading into halftime on level terms, with Wolves underperforming compared to their usual standard.

The hosts emerged with renewed vigor in the second half, executing precise moves that ultimately secured them the lead.

Rayan Ait-Nuori capitalized on a delivery from Toti Gomes to head home in the 52nd minute, putting Wolves ahead.

Wolves extended their lead in the 67th minute, courtesy of an own goal by Fulham’s Tom Cairney. Despite Iwobi halving the deficit for Marco Silva’s side with a late strike in added time, Fulham’s comeback efforts fell short.

With his goal, Iwobi has now been directly involved in six goals (five goals and one assist) in 20 league appearances for Fulham. However, the defeat sees Fulham drop to 12th place in the league standings.
