By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria international, Alice Ogebe scored the winner as FC Masar edged Zamalek 1-0 to retain the Egyptian Women’s Premier League title on Sunday.

The former Real Betis player scored the winner in the 44th minute as FC Masar secured the league title.

The league, therefore, remained with the three-year-old Badya-based team.

With the title sealed, FC Masar will represent Egypt at the UNAF (North Africa) Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.

The UNAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers give FC Masar and Ogebe the chance to qualify for the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Ogebe joined FC Masar from Zamalek SC during the season adding her experience in Nigeria, Spain, Poland, and Turkey to help the team usurp Al Ahly at the top of the league table.

This marks the second league title for Ogebe since clinching the 2020/21 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title with Rivers Angels.

She also played for Edo Queens upon her return to Nigeria after playing in Spain (Real Betis) and Poland.

With another Nigerian, Glory Edet, winning the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League as the first player from the country to claim the title with TP Mazembe, Ogebe hopes to replicate the feat of Edet.

FC Masar beat Ogebe’s former team, Edo Queens, on penalties to win a bronze medal at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.
