Aliyu Zubair Masterclass as Telecom SC Stun Al Ahly in Egypt Super Cup Shock

Telecom SC delivered one of the biggest upsets of the Egypt Super Cup Round of 32, producing a stunning 2–1 comeback victory over Al Ahly after extra time, in a tactically inspired performance orchestrated by head coach Aliyu Zubair.

The Egyptian giants appeared on course to assert their dominance when Omar Kamal fired Al Ahly ahead in the 41st minute. With the record champions controlling large spells of the game, Telecom SC faced a daunting task heading into the second half.

However, Zubair’s tactical nous proved decisive. The Nigerian coach reshaped his side after the break, tightening the defensive structure while introducing a more direct and purposeful attacking approach that gradually unsettled Al Ahly.

The adjustments paid off in dramatic fashion in the 81st minute, when Mostafa Fawzy found the equaliser to force the contest into extra time. With momentum swinging and pressure mounting, Telecom SC remained disciplined and compact, executing Zubair’s game plan with composure and intelligence.

Fawzy completed a memorable brace in the 110th minute, capitalising on another well-timed attacking move to seal a historic victory and book Telecom SC’s place in the Round of 16.

The result sent shockwaves through Egyptian football and further underlined Aliyu Zubair’s growing reputation for tactical acumen, resilience, and big-game management. Since joining the Egyptian second division side in October, the gaffer has quickly made his mark, guiding Telecom SC through one of the most remarkable nights in the club’s history.

Buoyed by belief and momentum, Telecom SC now march confidently into the next phase of the competition, carrying the aura of a team unafraid of giants.
