Bendel Insurance goalkeeper Amas Obasogie says the catalyst for the team this season was a 2-0 win over Akwa United.
Two first-half goals from Imade Osehenkhoe and Ismael Seriki secured a win for the Benin Arsenal at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo and Monday Odigie’s side went on to win six out of the eight games to top Group A.
Following their dream start to the season, the goalie attributed the form to their opening match victory.
“The run started when we traveled to Uyo. Nobody gave us the chance to beat Akwa United but God was there for us,” Obasogie told Brila FM.
“We never believed it that we can beat Akwa United, one of the biggest clubs in the Nigerian league. The win spurred us up to the extent that any team we are meeting, we see them as Akwa United.
“It gave us the belief that we can beat any team since we can beat Akwa United.”
They only dropped points twice against Shooting Stars and Gombe United with 2-2 and 0-0 draws respectively. The second stanza of the league for Bendel Insurance starts with a trip to Aba where the team will face Enyimba.
