Anderlecht Pursues Imoh Ezekiel as Onyekuru’s Potential Replacement

Belgian outfit Anderlecht is actively exploring the prospect of recruiting Imoh Ezekiel during the upcoming January transfer window to fill the void left by the unfortunate injury to Henry Onyekuru, reports have indicated. Onyekuru, the prolific scorer for Anderlecht, is expected to be sidelined for an estimated six months due to injury, prompting Anderlecht’s coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck to initiate a search for a suitable replacement.

Imoh Ezekiel, aged 24, has emerged as a prime candidate for Anderlecht’s consideration, given his prior experience in the Belgian league. Vanhaezebrouck, eager to maintain a formidable attacking force, views Ezekiel as a fitting addition to the squad, especially considering his past contributions at both Anderlecht and Standard Liege.

Sources close to Ezekiel reveal that discussions are underway, with Anderlecht expressing interest, and while Ezekiel is contemplating a potential move to Russia, the Belgian option is still actively on the table. The player, a Team Nigeria representative at the Rio 2016 Olympics, has a history with Anderlecht, having spent a brief loan period during the 2015/16 season and registering two goals in 22 appearances.

Standard Liege is also reportedly vying for Ezekiel’s signature, as the player is currently a free agent following the termination of his contract with Konyaspor. With his dynamic attacking capabilities, Ezekiel could provide Anderlecht with the firepower needed to compensate for Onyekuru’s absence. As discussions progress, the resolution of certain issues remains a factor in determining the player’s next move. The January transfer window is poised to witness significant developments as Anderlecht endeavors to fortify its squad for the challenges ahead.
