Asisat Oshoala celebrates second UEFA Women’s Champions League title
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria forward Asisat Oshoala celebrated her second UEFA Women’s Champions League title with her Spanish side Barcelons following Saturday’s 3-2 comeback victory over German club Wolfsburg.
After going down by 2-0 before the halftime break via goals from Ewa Pajor and Alexandra Popp, Jonatan Giráldez’s halftime team talk worked the miracle with three goals in the second half.
Patricia Guijarro started the comeback three minutes into the second half before her header evened the scoreline.
Fridolina Rolfo couldn’t miss after Aitana Bonmati failed to convert a chance before an opportunity fell on the path of Rolfo who scored the winning goal in the 70th minute for the Spanish champions.
Oshoala was ruled out of the match due to injury but savoured her second Champions League title, extending her historic feat, as the only African to have won the European crown twice.
She scored five goals this season in the Champions League to help her side to its second European success in four years.
The former Arsenal and FC Robo player remains the only African player to win the UEFA Women’s Champions League after winning her first at the end of the 2020/2021 season.
The team also decisively won the Spanish League title with Oshoala scoring 21 goals to lead the club to another league title.
