Barcelona center-back Araujo awake in hospital after scary head injury

Barcelona head coach Xavi has revealed Ronald Araujo is safe and awake after the defender picked up a head injury during Catalan’s victory over Celta Vigo.

The Spanish giants beat Celta 3-1 on Tuesday night at Camp Nou thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s brace and Memphis Depay’s strike. However, the victory was somehow overshadowed by scary moments after Araujo was rushed to hospital after clashing heads with teammate Gavi.

Araujo managed to get up after the incident but later collapsed to the ground with teammates calling for medical attention where he was put into an ambulance.

Speaking after the match, Xavi revealed the Uruguayan had suffered a concussion shortly after and he is conscious and responsive.

“We can rest easy,” said Xavi after the game.

“The doctors have told us he is conscious and that he will be spending the rest of the night in the hospital, although we were scared at first.”

The 23-year-old is set to undergo tests before he can be cleared to leave the hospital. He will also have to be given mandatory time away from football to recover.
