Bendel Insurance denies Benjamin Tenimu’s move to Spanish club
By Wale Mustapha
Insurance FC have refuted claims that the defender, Benjamin Tenimu has joined Spanish lower division club, Lleida Esportiu.
It was reported in some sections of the media that the experienced center back who was instrumental to the Benin Arsenal’s incredible run in the last NPFL season has left the club for an undisclosed fee.
The 2023 Federation Cup champions in a statement issued on Thursday explained that Tenimu is still their player and would be open to discussions about his potential move to any interested clubs but with the right price.
They however advised the media and rum our peddlers to desist from carrying unfounded news and always verify information from appropriate quarters before putting them out.
“Our attention has been drawn to the fake news circulating on social media that our Central Defender Benjamin Tanimu has left us for a Spanish Football Club Lleida Esportiu.
“To put the record straight, the information saying that Tanimu has signed for Club Lleida in Spain is false and misleading. We, therefore urge football lovers, Bendel Insurance FC fans and the general public to disregard the social media report.
“For the avoidance of doubt, several clubs in Spain, Turkey, England, Germany, Serbia, Qatar, and Kuwait have indicated an interest in the defender but no club, including Lleida or any other club abroad, has officially tabled any deal nor reached any agreement with Bendel Insurance FC in that regard.
“Bendel Insurance management meanwhile has given Benjamin Tanimu’s agent the authority to negotiate his personal terms with interested clubs on its behalf while the player continues his work on the field with Bendel Insurance.
“Benjamin Tanimu remains an integral part of the Bendel Insurance team and he is in camp with other members of the strong squad preparing for the CAF Confederation Cup match against RS Berkane on the 16th of this month.
If any deal comes through for Benjamin, we will make it known to the general public,” the statement reads.
