Bolton Wanderers Manager Optimistic About New Signing Chinedu Obasi’s Potential Impact Despite Fitness Challenges

In a strategic move aimed at bolstering their squad, Bolton Wanderers recently secured the services of Nigerian forward Chinedu Obasi on a short-term deal until the end of the season. Manager Phil Parkinson, while acknowledging Obasi’s current fitness level, expressed optimism about the player’s potential contribution to the club.
The 31-year-old, who notably graced the Bundesliga with FC Schalke 04, inked the deal after a successful trial period that included a goal-scoring performance in an Under-23s clash with Burnley at the Macron Stadium.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Parkinson commented on Obasi’s commitment to the team, stating, “He had the option to go back to Europe, and he was happy to sign for us on a pay-as-you-play deal. This gives us an option to look at him further.” Parkinson also noted that due to limited exposure in training sessions, the coaching staff is eager to evaluate Obasi’s capabilities in upcoming games.
While acknowledging the Nigerian’s current fitness status, Parkinson stated, “He’s quite a way off in terms of fitness-wise, and he’s got work to do in the Under-23s. He needs a couple of games, but hopefully, he could be an asset for us.”
Obasi, a seasoned player with experience in Norway, Germany, Sweden, and China, brings a wealth of international experience to Bolton. Despite the initial fitness challenges, Parkinson remains hopeful that Obasi’s tenure with the Wanderers will add depth and skill to the team’s offensive capabilities.
