Brian Idowu Confident in Super Eagles’ Ability to Navigate Challenging World Cup Group

Moscow, Russia – Super Eagles defender Brian Idowu expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to progress through the formidable challenges of their 2018 FIFA World Cup group, acknowledging the strength of Group D opponents while emphasizing the team’s potential to advance to the knockout stage.

Nigeria, led by coach Gernot Rohr, finds itself in a competitive Group D alongside football powerhouses Argentina, experienced side Croatia, and World Cup debutants Iceland. Idowu, who made his debut for Nigeria in the 4-2 international friendly victory against Argentina in November, acknowledged the difficulty of facing Lionel Messi’s Argentina, but remained optimistic about the Super Eagles’ chances against Croatia and Iceland.

“We got a hard group. Argentina is the top team in the group, and they have Lionel Messi, who is difficult to play against. He is probably from another planet,” remarked Idowu, who plays for Russian club Amkar Perm, in an interview with m.sovsport.ru. “But we can beat Croatia and Iceland. It is a powerful group, but we can qualify for the next stage.”

Highlighting key players for Nigeria in the upcoming World Cup, Idowu pointed to the leadership of Obi Mikel, who achieved success with Chelsea, along with the contributions of Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi, both with Leicester City.

The Super Eagles are set to kick off their World Cup campaign against Croatia on June 16 at the Kaliningrad Stadium, with Idowu’s optimism reflecting the team’s determination to overcome the formidable challenges ahead.
