Plovdiv, Bulgaria – Lokomotiv Plovdiv’s towering defender, Stephen Eze, is eagerly anticipating his inaugural derby clash against arch-rival Botev Plovdiv in the Bulgarian top-flight league. Positioned at fifth on the league table with 32 points from 22 matches, Botev Plovdiv presents a formidable challenge for Eze’s Lokomotiv, currently in seventh place with 27 points.
Ahead of the anticipated showdown at Stadion Lokomotiv on Sunday, Eze, a key figure in the home-based Super Eagles, expressed confidence in his team’s ability to secure a home victory and narrow the point gap between them and Botev Plovdiv.
“We’re looking forward to the game with much anticipation. It’s a derby game, and a lot is attached to derbies. This is my first derby here, and I am determined to win it by the special grace of God,” affirmed Eze in an interview with CSN.
In a further affirmation of his readiness for the derby, Eze took to Instagram on Thursday, praising the club’s supporters for their unwavering faith in the team.
“The game on the weekend ended 1-1 draw against #SlaviaSofia. The boys gave their best, and we had a wonderful lead until the opponents scored in the last minutes. All in all, a good game, and our supporters were wonderful as always! It’s time to polish our boots and get ready for the #derby against #BotevPlovdiv.”
Eze, who joined Lokomotiv Plovdiv during the January transfer window, has quickly become a pivotal player for the Bulgarian side after a loan stint with Kano Pillars and previous appearances in the Nigeria Professional Football League with clubs like Sunshine Stars, Lobi Stars, and FC IfeanyiUbah.
