CAF CC: Chris Green upbeat about Adokiye Amasiemaka Stadium getting CAF nod

By: Monsurah Olatunji

Commissioner of Sports, Rivers State, Barrister Chris Green is hopeful Adokie Amasiemaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, will be certified fit to host CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal showdown with Young Africans this month.
The stadium was banned from hosting the continental matches of the Nigerian champions after CAF declared it unfit two months ago but the venue is wearing a new look following recent refurbishment.
With the new development, the Pride of Rivers are hoping for a home return from  Godswill Akpabio Stadium for the CAF Confederations Cup clash against the Tanzanian giants in the quarterfinals.
With the recent renovation and improved maintenance work at the stadium, the ministry sports boss is confident that  CAF will give a green light to host international matches.
“All can see the level of improvement, the turf, scoreboard, players’ bench, flood lights, the dressing rooms have all worn new looks to an international standard worthy of hosting a World Cup match,” Green told media.
“I believe with the new development, CAF will give a green light for the stadium to host our CAF club competition.”
Representing Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, Chief of Staff to Minister of Sports, Abba Yola said all hands must be on deck in making sure that the NFF and the Ministry give adequate support to get CAF approval for the stadium.
“We are here in making sure that we give all necessary support to get this stadium approved by CAF.
“We will work with the NFF and see how both of us can assist our darling team playing in front of their fans because that will go a long way in encouraging the only Nigeria team in the continent to go further in the competition.”
