CAF Champions League: Rivers United boss warns against complacency vs Les Aigles clash

By Wale Mustapha

Rivers United General Manager, Okey Kpalukwu, has warned players against complacency ahead of their CAF Champions League first round, second leg fixture against FS Les Aigles du Congo.

The Nigerian side played out a goalless draw in the first leg held last week in Kinshasa, leaving the tie delicately poised heading into Sunday’s return leg at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

With a spot in the next round at stake, Rivers United must secure a win in regulation time to advance.

Kpalukwu, addressing the team during preparations, stressed the importance of maintaining focus and not underestimating their Congolese opponents.

“We worked hard and got a draw in Kinshasa,” he said. “We can’t take them for granted. We have to work hard and ensure we put in our best. What we want is to win, and we are the ones who have to score.”

The Rivers United boss emphasized that although the first-leg result was positive, it would mean little without a decisive performance at home.

The match is expected to draw significant local support as Rivers United aim to reach the next phase of the competition and continue their pursuit of continental glory.
