CAFCC: Wasiu Jimoh fancies Kwara United’s group stage hopes at RS Berkane

By Wale Mustapha

Wasiu Jimoh remains optimistic about the chances of Kwara United ahead of the return fixture against RS Berkane  for the second leg, second round of 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday.

The Harmony Boys needed a comeback spirit before recording a resounding 3-1 victory against RS Berkane in Lagos last Sunday.

Despite the usual pessimism that awaits most visiting clubs to North African region for continental engagements, the former Rivers United forward is upbeat of United chances to cause upset against the defending champions.

“We are aware of the antics and the likely intimidation that may come along with it from the North African teams. We have worked towards it and I believe we will overcome them,” Jimoh told Informant247.

“If we can able to defeat them in Lagos in the manner we did, I believe we stand a chance to do even better against them, we will only need to stick together and play together as a unit.”

The former Shooting Stars striker talked down his personal target, insisting that his achievement so far has come through the effort of the whole team and not by his personal best alone.

While noting the never die spirit as the driving force behind his impressive form, he added that the goals has further pushed him to do more for his team.

“I just want to be a team player and set the target of getting to group stage with the team because it’s a collective efforts and not that of one person,” he continued.

“The goals mean a lot to me and they have further pushed me to keep doing my best all the time. We are going to take the second leg like a final and do our best in order to achieve victory”, he said.

The 3-1 first leg win has handed Kwara United an advantage going into the reverse fixture scheduled to kick off by 8pm Nigerian time in Berkane, Morroco on Saturday.

Kwara United left Nigeria on Wednesday via Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and the team is expected to acclimatize with the weather of the North African country ahead of their game.
