By Wale Mustapha
Nigerian youth international Caleb Ochedikwu made an impressive debut for Uljanik Pula, earning Man of the Match honors in their 2-1 victory over Grobnican in the Croatian top flight on Saturday.
The former Mavlon FC midfielder entered the fray as a second-half substitute and quickly made his presence felt. Within minutes of his introduction, Ochedikwu provided a crucial assist, setting up Benjamin Pajkovic for Uljanik Pula’s second goal in the 70th minute. Earlier, Robert Peric-Komsic had given the home side the lead just three minutes after the restart.
Ochedikwu’s entry in the 59th minute brought much-needed stability and balance to the midfield, significantly contributing to the team’s control of the game.
His commanding performance included winning key duels and initiating attacks through his quick passes. Despite coming close to scoring himself—twice being denied by the post—his impact was undeniable.
Grobnican managed to pull one back in the 76th minute with a goal from Lovro Mikulica, but Ochedikwu and his teammates held firm to secure the victory.
Following the match, an Uljanik Pula official praised Ochedikwu’s debut, calling it an “excellent performance” and highlighting his potential.
“He will be a great player,” the official noted. “His performance was outstanding for his debut, and we are all very impressed.”
Ochedikwu signed with Uljanik Pula last month from Mavlon FC, just before the close of the European transfer window. His debut performance has certainly set a high standard for his future with the club.
