Boro started the second half with a renewed spirit having in mind the desire to continue belief in wrestling that second automatic position with Sheffield United who had won at Bristol City a day earlier.
The dominance paid off in the 55th minutes when Hayden Hackney turned in a perfect cross Isaiah Jones.
The second goal came three minutes later for the hosts as Cameron Archer outpaced two of his markers before getting to the end of Zack Steffen’s lofted pass.
It didn’t take much time for Akpom to get the third for Boro when he arrived earlier than Archer to score his 28th league goal
