Chinwendu Ihezuo scores as Pachuca defeat Chivas in Liga MX clash

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward Chinwendu Ihezuo was on target as Mexican champions Pachuca secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Guadalajara Chivas in their Liga MX Femenil Apertura encounter on Monday.

Ihezuo opened the scoring in the 27th minute, finishing neatly with her left foot from a cross delivered by team captain Veronica Corral.

Chivas, however, were handed a lifeline two minutes later when Karla Nieto of Pachuca received a second yellow card, reducing the hosts to ten players.

The visitors quickly took advantage, with Alicia Cervantes drawing them level in the 34th minute.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Pachuca regained control in the second half.

Corral capitalised on a defensive mix-up in the 77th minute to restore her side’s lead with a composed finish into an empty net.

Ihezuo was substituted in the 46th minute for Ayooluwa Oke, having now scored six goals so far this season.

Her compatriot Osinachi Ohale played the entire match and received a yellow card in stoppage time.

The victory keeps Pachuca in second place on the league table with 39 points, just two behind leaders Tigres UANL. They will next face Club Tijuana on November 1, 2025.
