Christy Ucheibe suffers injury scare in Benfica win over Torreense

Midfielder Christy Ucheibe was taken off the field with an injury scare as her Portuguese Liga BPI Women’s side, SL Benfica edged Torreense in the league opener on Friday.

She saw 79 minutes of action before she was assisted off the field by a teammate and the medics.

Goals from Cristina Martin Prieto and Marit Lund lifted the ten-player Benfica to a 2-1 win.

Ava Seelenfreund reduce the deficit for the travelers after Carole Costa was sent off in the 13th minute.

The numerical advantage counter for less as the league champions start thet title defence on a winning note.

Ucheibe played all three games for the Nigeria senior women’s national team at the Paris 2024 Olympics in France against Brazil, Spain, and Japan.

With no games for the Super Falcons in the remaining months of the year, the club awaits medical statement on the nature of her injury.

She returned to SL Benfica to help the team clinch the Algarve Femenina title ahead of the season opener.
